Defense Lawyer for Firearms Charges in Northern Virginia
If you are charged with any firearms-related offense in any state or federal court in Northern Virginia, you have come to the right place for help.
Attorney Mike Sprano has over thirty years of experience with all types of firearms. A former Marine with combat experience who qualified as an expert with both pistol and rifle, he remains an active participant in shooting activities to this day, and has held a Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit for close to twenty years.
In addition to this personal experience and expertise with firearms, Attorney Sprano has been defending individuals accused of gun crimes in the state and federal courts across Northern Virginia since the turn of the century. He has handled cases involving everything from Possession of a Concealed Weapon, Brandishing, and Reckless or Malicious Discharge of a Firearm; to Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony (including Robbery, Car-Jacking, & Breaking and Entering); Use or Possession of a Firearm during a Drug Crime; as well as Malicious and Aggravated Malicious Wounding Cases. He has also defended several Homicide with a Firearm cases including First Degree Murder, Second Degree Murder, and Manslaughter.
Use of a Firearm In Self Defense
If you found yourself in a situation in which you had to use your firearm to defend yourself, your home or your family, Attorney Sprano is the lawyer for you. Through experience, training, and extensive research, he has developed considerable expertise in the field of using of a firearm in Self-Defense, Defense of Home (“Castle Doctrine”), and Defense of Others.
Northern Virginia Bans on Firearms in Parks
In 2020, the Virginia General Assembly passed Virginia Code 15.2-915(E), which allowed local governments to pass ordinances criminalizing the possession of firearms or ammunition in public parks. The governments of Alexandria, Fairfax County, Fairfax City, Arlington, and Loudoun County all quickly capitalized on this change in the law, passing ordinances which make a Class 1 Misdemeanor to possess a firearm or ammunition in or on any public parkland. Unlike the Gun Free Schools law, there is no exception for having firearms or ammunition secured in your vehicle (even if locked and cased), and only Loudoun County authorized an exception for Concealed Handgun Permit Holders.
At the Sprano Law Firm, we believe these laws violate the Right to Bear arms guaranteed by both the United States and Virginia Constitutions, and we are prepared to raise those challenges in court. Especially if you have a valid Concealed Handgun Permit and are carrying a gun for self-defense in one of the area’s many beautiful parks – the very type of place where you are most vulnerable and least protected by the police – if you find yourself charged with one of these offenses, please call us right away!
